Feed strategies discussed at upcoming August 26 Ag in Motion digital event

Saskatoon, SK., August 16, 2021 – Amid extremely dry prairie conditions, livestock farmers and ranchers are looking for strategies to help them with the production impacts and challenging decisions they are facing for their operations.

The August 26 Ag in Motion™ digital event day will feature sessions to address the areas of grazing, feed, forage and the current state of the agriculture industry during the themed digital event Livestock Day: Featuring Beef and Dairy.

The Ag in Motion digital event is free to attend and farmers can register for a digital pass at aginmotion.ca. Highlights for the August 26 digital event day include:

  • Rancher Kelly Sidoryk and Canadian Cattlemen Editor Lisa Guenther discuss extending grazing through holistic planning
  • Bart Lardner with Agriculture & Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan will discuss considerations when using alternate feeds
  • LIVE roundtable with Corteva™ Agriscience staff to discuss a comparison of corn hybrids for forage quality for use in dairy, beef, feedlot and grazing
  • Aaron Goertzen, Senior Economist at BMO Capital Markets, will assess the current state of the agriculture sector and what may lie ahead

“There have been so many cropping and feed challenges with this dry crop year that we wanted to address some of the strategies around feed alternatives moving forward,” says Rob O’Connor, Ag in Motion Show Director. “While these sessions will likely only scratch the surface, there will be many practical ideas that can help farmers with decisions in their operations this year.”

The August 26 Ag in Motion digital event is the fourth in a series of six digital events planned for 2021. Registration for a digital pass is free and gives farmers all-year access to current and past sessions until December 31, 2021.

“With an early harvest occurring in many areas of the prairies, we felt that having access to online information is important,” explains O’Connor. “Farmers can watch on their devices through the event app, or come back to the digital event platform to view the information later when their schedule allows.”

O’Connor also notes that a small in-person livestock event will take place at the Ag in Motion show site on August 20 & 21, with speaker presentations on current topics of interest to livestock farmers. The in-person event will also feature a Junior Cattle Show, Cattle Dog Trials, equipment features and a small tradeshow. Cost to attend is $10 per person per day, and COVID-19 protocols will be followed in accordance with the Saskatchewan public health orders of the day.
