Langham, Sask., February 27, 2026 – You can’t have a farm without skilled operators and the same is true for a farm show. Welcome to the Farm Show returns in its final episode of the season with Episode 4, Smooth Operators, shining a spotlight on farmers and show site operators.
Ag in Motion, Western Canada’s largest outdoor farm show, relies on an annual dedicated team of operators to support more than 550 exhibitors. From setting up and tearing down equipment to shuttling visitors across the 100-acre site, operators are the backbone of the show.
“Ag in Motion is a microcosm of farm operations, and we’re celebrating the special skills of the people that keep our farm show moving at a high pitch,” says Rob O’Connor, show director of Ag in Motion. “We also talk with farmers about an industry constantly on the move to meet the demands of supplying food and products for a growing world.”
The episode follows the important role that operators play throughout the show, plus features Prairie farmers and their thoughts on new technologies that are evolving to meet farm operators’ needs. The episode shines a light on the technical skill and teamwork required to manage large-scale equipment in a fast-paced environments, whether on farm or at the show.
The episode also features the Ag in Motion Smooth Operator Challenge, a precision-based competition that saw journalists and farmers taking a turn at the wheel of a semi-truck. Competitors attempt to guide a tea bag suspended on a string into a cup, a deceptively simple task that tests one’s control and accuracy rather than speed or power.
“People don’t realize how challenging it is to drive an articulated truck,” says Scott Garvey, senior editor of machinery, Glacier FarmMedia. “This was an opportunity for farmers to show off their skills.”
For one urban-based operator at the show, running equipment at Ag in Motion turned him into a lover of all things agriculture on the Prairies. It’s a story about the draw of Saskatchewan living and the way the farm show is helping to entice a new generation into considering a career in agriculture.
